Yosemite Valley Has Re-Opened! Here Is Where to Go and What to Visit at the End of Summer in Yosemite
The Ferguson Fire that roared through the Yosemite region was scary, but was no match for the brave firefighters who defended our amazing National Park. Now that the park has re-opened, we've compiled a list of must-sees and dos during your next visit. Late summer is a great time to jump in the cool water, take a hike on a misty trail, and visit the high country.

Tuolumne Meadows (High Country)
Roam Through Tuolumne Meadows
You're in luck, this is arguably the best time to visit Tuolumne Meadows and the high country. At 8,600 ft elevation, temperatures are ideal this time of year. The scenery through Tioga Pass is full of cascading peaks, waterfalls, rivers, and grassy areas, making it perfect for hiking, picnicking, and photography.
Hike Glen Aulin in Tuolumne Meadows
While in Tuolumne Meadows, take a cooling hike to Glen Aulin. Along the way you'll see Tuolumne Falls and White Cascade. The trail is 13 miles round trip, but it's scenic no matter how far you go. Late summer is a great time to take a dip in White Cascade's swimming hole. Don't forget to practice water safety!
Wawona
Take a Dip by the South Fork of the Merced River
There's nothing like dipping your feet (or your whole body) into the river on a warm summer day, or walking your dog along the cooling waters of the South Fork of the Merced in the early morning or late evening.
Hike to the Swinging Bridge
This easy 0.75-mile hike leads to an actual swinging bridge, a great spot to swim in clear water or simply explore. There are some hidden swimming holes near the bridge; see if you can find them!
Hike to Chilnualna Falls
For those looking for a more intense hike, this one's for you. The waterfall is 2,200 feet high but hidden between rock, so you'll see fragments of it as you climb rather than the full drop. The swimming holes along this trail make it well worth the effort. Pack your boots and swim trunks.
Yosemite Valley
Hike to Vernal Falls (Mist Trail)
There's a reason this is called the Mist Trail. This 317-foot waterfall will cool you off whether you stop at the base or climb to the top. Pack plenty of water and snacks. It flows year-round, so there's always water on the trail.
Hike to Nevada Falls
If you're up for more, continue on the same trail past Vernal Falls to Nevada Falls, sitting at 594 feet with steps all the way to the top. Beyond Nevada Falls is Half Dome, which you can admire from the overlook or hike to with a permit. Do not swim above the waterfalls.
Enjoy the park during this amazing season and always practice fire safety, conservation, and leave no trace so future generations can enjoy the same beauty.
